Meghan Will Not Be Meeting Trump With Harry, William And KateMay 28, 2019
The Queen will be hosting Donald Trump and his wife Melania for their three-day visit. While in the capital, the First Couple will enjoy a lunch with Prince Charles, Camilla Parker-Bowles (the Duchess of Cornwall) and also Prince Harry.
The lunch will be followed by a private tea with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is absent from the state visit’s list of invitees.
Though we know that she was in opposition to the election of the President of the USA, she will be absent from the meeting due to her maternity leave, and not necessarily because of her feelings towards the President.
That being said, prior to her royal status, the Duchess spoke out repeatedly in favour of2016 Democratic Presidential opponent Hillary Clinton, and against the reality TV star-turned politician Trump.
While on a 2016 interview on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, Meghan said exactly why she didn’t like the Republican presidential nominee:
‘It’s really the moment I go; we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada…Yes, of course, Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it.’
An outspoken feminist, Meghan went on to explain why she would vote for Clinton:
‘You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary because she’s a woman, but certainly, because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.’
Whilst we’re sure Meghan would be the epitome of diplomatic grace if she met with the President, she’s no doubt pleased with the timing of her son’s arrival.
