Will Harry And Meghan Name Their Baby Diana If They Have Daughter?March 30, 2019
The couple has said that they do not know the gender of their first child. Harry and Meghan often pay tribute to Princess Diana, whether it’s by talking about the Princess’ life or wearing pieces of her jewellery. Will the Royal couple soon welcome the late royal’s namesake?
Although the couple has said they do not know the gender of their child when because they want it to be a surprise. A lot of fans hope they’ll honour Harry’s mother, who died in a car accident in Paris, in 1997.
UK bookies Ladbrokes now puts Diana as the top contender if the baby is a girl, with 6/1 odds.
William and Kate had Diana in mind when they were naming their daughter, Charlotte. The little princess’ full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, paying homage to both her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and her late grandmother.
As for the “princess” part, a title for Meghan and Harry’s baby is still uncertain. Since the couple was named the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day, it’s a tradition for the eldest son of a duke to inherit the father’s title. If the baby is a boy, he might be known as the Earl of Dumbarton, the secondary Sussex title, before inheriting his father’s title, William Bortrick, chairman of Burke’s Peerage, previously told PEOPLE.
If they have more sons they’ll be known as Lord (His Name) Windsor, while daughters will be Lady (Her Name), Windsor.
However, the Queen may decide to take a different path and give the Sussex child a similar title to his/her cousins George, Charlotte and Louis. If that’s the case then, according to Bortrick, the Sussex sons will be styled as His Royal Highness Prince (His Name) of Sussex, while daughters will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess (Her Name) of Sussex.
When Harry and Meghan sat down for an interview after their engagement last year and shared how they plan to make sure the legacy of Princess Diana remained strong, and the Prince said he knew his mom would have loved his wife.
“They’d be thick as thieves, without question. I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me. But I think she would have been best friends with Meghan,” said Harry.
To keep his mother “with us on this crazy journey together,” he proposed with a ring that includes two diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal collection. It also included a stone from Botswana, where the pair travelled early in their relationship. Meghan noted that keeping Princess Diana close to the heart during the engagement is important to her too.
“Not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us,” said Meghan.
